Tom Scearce is the founder of Scearce Market Development, a Sales and Marketing consultancy based in Seattle and serving clients throughout North America. Since launching SMD in late 2008, Tom has helped companies in diverse industries (business services, media, technology, medical devices) and sizes ($10M to $1B+) increase revenue.
Previously, Tom was Vice-President of Market Development at Speakeasy, a Best Buy (BBY) company and a leading nationwide provider of business VoIP and data services. After joining the company in 2003, Tom helped transform Speakeasy from a niche consumer ISP into a nationally-recognized leader in small business communications.
Tom and his team implemented a unique B2B-focused inbound marketing system that resulted in annual revenue growth from $49 million in 2003 to $100 million in 2008. Additionally, Tom negotiated the divestiture of Speakeasy’s WiMAX network assets to TowerStream Corporation (TWER), and played a key supporting role in Best Buy’s 2007 acquisition of the company, including significant involvement in the investment thesis and financial due diligence phases.
Prior to Speakeasy, Tom was Director of Sales at Visto Corporation, negotiating private-label distribution agreements with leading wireless carriers including Nextel Communications (USA), Rogers Wireless and Telus Mobility (Canada), and SmarTone-Vodafone (Hong Kong).
